Despite the cold (mid-20's), windy day, 70 brave souls made it to Kingston on Sunday, November 24th for the 10th Annual Kingston Roller Ski Race. Although the turnout was smaller than usual, the competition was just as intense. Team HURT won the Open/College team championship once again while Wallkill High School took home the high school trophy for the first time.

Kingston Races, Awards and Costs
The Races:
People can register for the 5K &/or the 10K race(s). However, if you sign-up for the novice race, that's the only race you may enter. The novice race is for people who are just beginning their roller ski training. The cost is $20 for one race and $25 for two races. Sorry for the increase. Increased costs such as insurance, t-hirts and Kingston School District charges have made this necessary. In fact, we're making less money per skier this year than in any previous year.
Individual Awards:
I. An overall male and an overall female champion will be crowned based on their performances in both the 5K and the 10K race.
II. The male and female winners in the novice, the 5K, and the 10K races will receive an award.
III. Age group winner in the following categories:
high school and younger
out of high school to 29
30-45
over 45
Team Awards:
A high school, college or club may enter as many teams as they like. If entering more than one team, just list them as Team A, Team B, etc. We will be awarding a trophy and the revolving trophy to the winning high school team and the winning college/club team. Each team must fill out a card before the races start at 12 noon stating who will be racing in the 5K race and who will be racing in the 10K race.
H.S. Team Championship: A high school team will consist of 4 skiers - 2 guys and 2 girls. One guy and one girl must race in the 5K race and the other guy and other girl will race in the 10Krace. Each skier can participate in both races, if they wish. However, only 1 race can count toward the team championship and that race must be decided before the first race starts.
Club/College Team Championship: Basically, the same rules apply except a college/club team needs only 1 woman.
Special Team Pricing:
A team or club of 6 or more members that preregisters as a group at the same time, in the same envelope or in the same email, will receive a discount of $5 per skier. This price is not available on race day. Coaches - this is a great opportunity to bring most of your team at a very reduced price. You can sign-up as a team by sending me an email listing all the members, their race(s), their age, their sex, and their t-shirt size. Bring your race applications with you to the race and we'll take care of everything else on race day.

10th Annual Kingston Roller Ski Race
Well folks, the time has come for that annual fall ritual - the Kingston Roller Ski Race. Now celebrating its 10th anniversary, the Kingston Roller Ski Race has become, to many, the end of the training season and the start of the nordic ski racing season. It represents that time of the season where we begin to think about waxing our skis, stone grinding them if necessary, planning our racing schedule and, of course, our training schedule so we can peak for those big races.
The 10th anniversary edition of the Kingston Roller Ski Race, scheduled for Sunday,, November 24th, will not disappoint anyone. Our sponsors are lined up, our food is being prepared, the course is being prepped, and our t-shirts are being printed (hopefully, no problems like last year).
Pretty much everything remains the same as in the past - except for the cost. We did have to raise the price $5 to cover insurance. I've tried to keep the cost constant. reasonable and low for as long as possible. I hope this doesn't present a problem for anyone. We have our usual 12 noon start with the 5k classic, followed by the 2K novice race at 12:30pm; and, finishing with the 10K skate race at 1:15pm. If you have not received an application, please contact me at dgmalia@earthlink.net and I'll email you one. We'll be printing between 50 -75 t-shirts. To guarantee yourself a shirt and the right size, please preregister as soon as possible.
High Peaks Cyclery from Lake Placid will be on hand with amazing prices on everything ski and ski related. If there is something special you would like or just want to make sure they have the exact ski, boot, or pole that you would like, give them a call before hand so they can be sure to bring what you want.
Over the next week, I'll be posting info about the sponsors (they're listed on the side of this blog), any special offers the sponsors might be offering, and team championships. So keep checking back every few days to keep up on the upcoming race.
Hope to see everyone on the 24th

Kingston Roller Ski Races Results
After a few months delay, here are the results from the 9th Annual Kingston Roller Ski Races. It appears that I do a better job at setting up and running this event than wrapping up all the details after the races. Sorry for the lengthy delay. You also can access all the results at Peregrineracetiming.com including pace and age group results.
For the overall individual championship, Amy Duclos won the women's division while Josepf Iwan took the men's title. Team HURT continued its domination in the open team championship while Scotia-Glenville took home its 2nd straight High School Team title. In the new Kingston/North Creek Roller Ski Series championship, Ann Seyse was victorious for the women with Joseph Iwan winning the men's title.
Although the total number of racers was down a little this year with 87 participants, the competition was better than ever. The day began with the 5K classic race which came down to a sprint with Joseph Iwan edging out Austin Huneck by .1 second (yes, one-tenth of a second) to win and set a course record. In the 2nd race of the day, the 2K novice, Mikey Halligan took home the win while setting a course record of 5:25. To wrap up an already exciting day of racing, in the 10K skate, Sean Halligan overtook Joseph Iwan for the win by .9 second.
I hope everyone had a great time and plan on coming back next year, with a few additional friends, for the 10th Annual event on Sunday, November 24, 2013. Keep an eye open for an upcoming post with pictures.
