Sunday, November 22, 2009 is the date for the 6th Annual Kingston Rollerski Races to be held at the Miller Middle School in Lake Katrine, NY. Check-in begins at 10am with the races starting at 12 noon with the 5K classic, followed at 12:30 by the 2K novice and then concluding at 1pm with the 10K skate race. The cost of the event has stayed the same as last year - $15 for one race and $20 for two races. There are special team prices described below.
As in the past, everyone will receive a goody bag of items supplied by the sponsors, product information and a Toko ski hat. There will be a table of prizes donated by our sponsors to be given out via a random drawing after the races. We would like to thank Toko, Accelerade, Polar, Nathan, Salomon, Alpina, Exel poles, EarMitts, and Nikwax for their generosity this year.
We'll be set-up and ready to go by 10am for anyone who would like to arrive early. Wax tables will be available if you would like to get a start on your waxing or if a coach would like to give his athletes a little wax clinic. Dr. David Ness, chiropractor and ART technician, will be on hand to help with any physical problems you may have and the Hudson Valley School of Massage Therapy will again be on hand by 11am to give pre- and post- race massages. Community Energy, a wind power company, will be donating wind energy credits so that the entire event is basically being powered by wind energy. They will have a table set-up so you can learn more about them and perhaps sign-up to help support wind power.
Catskill Mountain Multisport will be on hand with virtually their entire ski inventory along with other equipment skiers use throughout the year (i.e. helmets). He'll have some great prices good only for the one day. Make sure you stop by his table.
Now for the Races:
People can register for the 5k &/or the 10K. However, if you sign-up for the novice race, that is the only race you may participate in. The novice race is for people who are just beginning their rollerski training.
This year, we will be giving trophies to the male and female winners in each of the three races. In response to a suggestion from last year, we also will be presenting a trophy to the overall male and female winners based on their performance in both the 5K and 10K races.
Also in response to a suggestion made, we are holding team/club championships. We are looking to present the top high school team and the top open club with a trophy and also with a revolving trophy which will have their name placed on it and then given out again to next year's winners. Here's how it will work.
High School Team Championship: A high school team will consist of 4 skiers - 2 guys and 2 girls. One guy and one girl must race in the 5K and the other guy and girls must race in the 10K (of course they are allowed to race in both races, but only one race will count). The team must sign-up and decide who will count for each race before the first race starts at 12 noon.
Open Club Championship: Basically, the same rules as above except a club only needs to include one woman. Sorry, but we just haven't had that many women in the race. If the number increases, then we can change the rules in the future. Again, which race counts for each of the four members must be decided before the start of the first race.
Special Team/Club Pricing: A team or club the preregisters a group at the same time (in the same envelope) will pay a maximum of $100 for the entire team or club.
For additional information or to request a race application, contact Greg Malia at dgmalia@earthlink.net
That's it for now. More might be added if necessary. Keep checking back.
