In fact, probably the best group yet. We have some old faithfuls who have been with us for many years now and a couple new companies. I'd like to thank all the sponsors for their support of this event and the Kingston High School nordic ski team.

Toko: The only company to be with us for all 8 years. Check out their new grip wax. They've developed a system where there are only 3 grip waxes that cover all conditions. What could be easier? I, and a few friends, got the opportunity to try them last winter and where other kick waxes failed, these worked beautifully. Pick some up and give them a try. Also, a Toko technical rep will be on hand Sunday to demonstrate some of their products and answer questions.

Salomon: Involved in most of our races, this year, we've also partnered with their trail running division and have received gift certificates for 2 pairs of trail running shoes as prizes.

Accelerade: Also with us for many years, Accelerade has given us some samples of a new product that's just out. I've used their drinks exclusively for about 10 years now and love them. If you haven't tried them yet, do so.

V2: V2 roller skis with their speed reducers and braking system set them apart from so many other brands. They've been involved with the race since the beginning and the Kingston team owns about 10 pairs.

Polar: When you think heart rate monitors, who else do you think of but Polar. There's not much else to say. They're the leader and they're with us. Once again, a Polar representative will be on hand at the race to demonstrate some of their products and answer questions.

Nathan: I've used other hydration systems many years ago; but, now I use Nathan. Whether it's a hand held system, an waist system, or a backpack, Nathan equipment fills the bill.

EarMitts: As the weather gets cold and the snow hasn't begun to fall, we're still on roller skis, especially down around Kingston. However, wearing only a bicycle helmet is hard on the ears. EarMitts keep the ears warm when skiing or bicycling in the cold.

Atomic: One of our original sponsors, Atomic is back after a couple years away. Welcome back. It's good to have them involved again.

Nikwax: Whether cleaning our high tech clothing or refurbishing a waterproof jacket, Nikwax has the product for you.

Our new sponsors this year include:

Rudy Project: As one of the premier helmet and sport glass companies, Rudy Project is very welcome to our event.

Podiumwear: If you're looking for new ski uniforms, look no further. Team HURT put me in touch with Podiumwear and we've purchased some new uniforms from them and they've become a race sponsor. Welcome.

Concept 2: The Ski Erg is the machine for strength training for nordic skiing. It's become so popular that there are races held on the machine. We're glad to have them involved. Welcome.

That's it for this year. As I've said at the previous races and will say again this year, you have many companies from which to choose when purchasing you equipment and supplies. Remember those companies who supported you at this event. Let's support them.

See you on Sunday.

Kingston Races, Awards and Costs

The Races:
People can register for the 5K &/or the 10K race(s). However, if you sign-up for the novice race, that's the only race in which you may participate. The novice race is for people who are just beginning their roller ski training.

Individual Awards:
There will be an overall male & female champions based on their performances in both the 5K & 10K races. This is the same as the past 2 years.

We, also, will be presenting awards to the 1st male & female finishers as well as the age group winners from each race. The age groups are:

high school & younger
out of high school to 29
30-45
over 45

Team Awards:
This, too, will follow what we have done in the past. We will award a trophy and a revolving trophy to the winning high school team and the winning open team/club. Each team participating must be set and a card filled out before the start of the first race at 12 noon.

H.S. Team Championship: A high school team will consist of 4 skiers - 2 guys and 2 girls. One guy and one girl must race in the 5K and the other guy and girls must race in the 10K (of course, they can participate in both races, but only one will count toward the team award). The team must sign-up and decide who will count from each race before the 1st event at 12 noon.

Open Team/Club Championship: Basically, the same rules apply except a club needs only one woman skier.

Special Team Pricing:
The cost of the race is $15 for one race and $20 for two races. However, a team or club that preregisters as a group at the same time, in the same envelope, will pay a maximum of $100 for the entire team/club. This price is not available on the day of the race. Coaches - this is a great opportunity to bring your entire team for a very reasonable price. There is one drawback. We can supply only 10 t-shirts to a team for this special pricing. If you need more shirts, it will cost $6 per extra shirt.

Watch for our next posting about the sponsors.

Roller Ski Race Applications Available

The applications for the 8th Annual Kingston Roller Ski races were just sent out to all previous participants as an attachment to an email. Over the years, many corporations have been asked to help and these are the companies who have been there in the past and are there for this year's event.

So, when you choose your ski equipment and supplies, please remember who supported this rollerski race and please support them as much as possible.

Toko has been with us since the beginning and has been very generous in their contributions over the years. Whether you're looking for wax supplies or ski clothing, think of Toko.

Alpina also has supported the races since year one. Consider them the next time you need a new pair of skis.

V2 is the final company that has been involved since the beginning. Their rollerskis are great and Kingston will be buying a new pair right after the rollerski races.

Salomon has been a sponsor of 5 of the 7 races we've held. Their boots and bindings are used by many and their skis are quickly becoming a favorite.

Accelerade has been the only ports drink company to become involved with the races. If you've tried their drinks and gels, you know how good they are. Last year, you received a packet of their drink powder and this year, you're getting one of their gels.

Polar is in its 3rd year and there's not much to say about them. Their equipment speaks for itself.

Nathan also is in its 3rd year and we're extremely happy to have them involved again. Their hydration systems are great and take a look at their reflecting vests. As safety becomes a larger and larger issues for rollerskiers, first we all adopted helmets and now we're looking at vests. Keep safe on the roads.

EarMitts is in its 2nd year of sponsorship and if you've ever tried to rollerski when it's below freezing, you know how difficult it is to keep any type of hat on your head and keep your ears warm. EarMitts are your solution. They're also great for biking.

New this year are One Way ski poles and their US distributor, Rossignol. We welcome them with great appreciation for their support.

Please support these companies when you're buying new equipment.

See you on the 21st.

For additional information, contact Greg Malia at 845-518-8598 or dgmalia@earthlink.net.

Kingston Races, Awards and Costs

The Races
People can register for the 5k &/or the 10k race(s). One guy and one girl must race in the 5k and the other guy and girl must race in the 10k (of course, they are allowed to participate in both races, but only one race will count toward the team award). The team must sign-up and decide who will count for each race before the first event at 12 noon.

Open Club Championship - Basically the same rules as above except a club needs only one woman skier.

Special Team Pricing
The cost of the race is $15 for one race and $20 for two races. However, a team or club that preregisters as a group at the same time, in the same envelope, will pay a maximum of $100 for the entire team or club. Coaches - this is an great way to bring your entire team for a very reasonable price. There is one drawback. We can supply only 10 t-shirts to a team for this special pricing. If a team needs more than 10 shirts, it will cost $6 per extra shirt.

Watch for our next posting about the sponsors.

Applications will be mailed out to previous skiers and coaches in the next week.

For additional information, contact Greg Malia at dgmalia@earthlink.net or 845-518-8598.

7th Annual Kingston Rollerski Races

Sunday, November 21, 2010 is the date for the 7th Annual Kingston Rollerski Races to be held at the Miller Middle School in Lake Katrine, NY. Check-in begins at 10am with the races starting at 12 noon with the 5K classic, followed at 12:30pm by the 2K novice and then concluding at 1pm with the 10K skate race. The cost of the event has stayed the same for the past few years - $15 for one race and $20 for two races. There are special team prices described in a later posting about the actual races.

As in the past, everyone will receive a goody bag of items supplied by the sponsors, product information and a race t-shirt. There will be a table of prizes donated by our sponsors to be given out first to the race winners and then to the remaining racers via a random drawing. Watch for future postings regarding the sponsors and prizes.

We'll be set-up and ready to go by 10am for anyone who would like to arrive early. The primary new addition this year is the participation in the event by High Peaks Cyclery from Lake Placid. They will be on-hand with their store on wheels offering a significant choice of training and racing supplies and equipment for everyone. It's a perfect opportunity to do some Christmas shopping for the athlete in your family or to just pick-up those items you personally need for the upcoming ski season. The other bonus is that High Peaks will be picking up skis for stone grinding. What could be easier than dropping off your skis at the rollerski race and then picking them up at a, to be determined, central location. They'll be designating locations in the Hudson Valley area (probably working with the Kingston nordic team) and the Albany-Glens Falls area. We still have to finalize this. High Peaks, also, will be donating to the prize table some very nice items.

With almost 100 participants last year and over 100 the year before, this has become the largest rollerski event in the northeast. Come on down for a great day. Food and drink are provided free - bagels, chili (meat and vegetarian), sports drink, etc. For the past two years, the Hudson Valley School of Massage Therapy has been on-hand to provide complementary massages to everyone. We're still working on finalizing it for this year. I'll post it as soon as it's arranged.

Anyone who raced in the past couple of years will receive email notification about the event and a race application in the mail. For everyone else, if you would like additional information check for future postings or contact Greg Malia at dgmalia@earthlink.net or by phone at 845-518-8598.

See all of you on November 21st.

Kingston Rollerski Results

The 6th Annual Kingston Rollerski Races turned to be another great success thanks to the sponsors who really came through with prizes and awards and the many skiers and fans who took part in the event. Although the total number of racers was down a little from last year (94 this year to 104 in 2008), the competition was tough (2 new course records set), the team competition close and the number of spectators more than ever.

I want to start by thanking the many sponsors without whom the awards would not have been possible. Toko, Nathan, Accelerade, V2, Polar, EarMitts, Alpina, Salomon, Nikwax and Spiuk. Locally, there was Catskill Mountain Multisport, Dick's Sporting Goods, the Hudson Valley School of Massage Therapy, State Farm Insurance, Hannaford, Hudson Valley Foot Associates, and the Ulster Savings Bank. I know everyone can purchase their equipment from many different companies and stores. However, these are the companies and businesses that stepped up to help with the race and supported the Kingston Nordic Ski Team. I hope that when you have a choice, you choose one of our sponsors. If you get the opportunity, let them know that you appreciate their support of the Kingston Rollerski Races.

I also need to express my most sincere gratitude to the many parents of the Kingston nordic skiers who provided all the food. We didn't run out this year and without them we would have gone hungry. THANKS.

Once again, Mother Nature cooperated and supplied us with another beautiful day.

5K Classic Results:

1) Martin Donnelly-Heg - Male - 35 - 13:52 - course record
2) Bob Underwood - Male - 49 - 14:07
3) Justin Tetlow - Male - 23 - 14:08
4) Tim Huneck - Male - 50 - 14:10
5) Chris Yarevich - Male - 31 - 14:24
6) Nick Underwood - Male - 16 - 14:52
7) David Kvam - Male - 27 - 15:25
8) Allan Serrano - Male - 42 - 15:27
9) Brian Halligan - Male - 14 - 15:33
10) Per Martin Larsen - Male - 69 - 15:34
11) William Frielinghaus - Male - 16 - 15:35
12) William Underwood - Male - 16 - 16:15
13) Gabby Mancuso - Fem - 16 - 16:55
14) Alex Pilus - Male - 17 - 17:07
15) Anton Peterle - Male - 17 - 17:29
16) Pete Best-Hall - Male - 16 - 17:35
17) Joshua Marse - Male - 16 - 17:40
18) Emily Burns - Fem - 17 - 17:53
19) Matt Hayden - Male - 15 - 17:57
20) Pete Minde - Male - 52 - 18:49
21) Carol Fisher - Fem - 57 - 18:55
22) Mac Trainor - Male - 18 - 18:58
23) Chris Frielinghaus - Male - 48 - 19:02
24) Alec Davis - Male - 69 - 19:08
25) John Vandermark - Male - 16 - 19:18
26) Alex Gilgore - Male - 16 - 19:44
27) Ashley Forshey - Fem - 15 - 20:09
28) Chris Redmond - Male - 15 - 20:26
29) Danny Leal - Male - 15 - 20:53
30) Jake Trainor - Male - 14 - 20:57
31) Val Malia - Fem - 21 - 21:07
32) Chris Lounsbury - Male - 17 - 21:09
33) Abby Hellman - Fem - 15 - 22:09
34) Gabrielle Lebhion - Fem - 15 - 23:16
35) Kimberly Clark - Fem - 16 - 26:04
36) Bryan Berg - Male - 16 - 28:09
37) Joe Rivera - Male - 48 - 31:57

2K Novice Results

1) Ethan Cooper - Male - 14 - 6:28
2) Chris Mazzei - Male - 15 - 6:53
3) Gaspar Lobato - Male - 17 - 8:34
4) Alfredo Mazzuca - Male - 14 - 8:59
5) Alex ? There will be a table of prizes donated by our sponsors to be given out via a random drawing after the races. We would like to thank Toko, Accelerade, Polar, Nathan, Salomon, Alpina, Exel poles, EarMitts, and Nikwax for their generosity this year.

We'll be set-up and ready to go by 10am for anyone who would like to arrive early. Wax tables will be available if you would like to get a start on your waxing or if a coach would like to give his athletes a little wax clinic. Dr. David Ness, chiropractor and ART technician, will be on hand to help with any physical problems you may have and the Hudson Valley School of Massage Therapy will again be on hand by 11am to give pre- and post- race massages. Community Energy, a wind power company, will be donating wind energy credits so that the entire event is basically being powered by wind energy. They will have a table set-up so you can learn more about them and perhaps sign-up to help support wind power.

Catskill Mountain Multisport will be on hand with virtually their entire ski inventory along with other equipment skiers use throughout the year (i.e. helmets). He'll have some great prices good only for the one day. Make sure you stop by his table.

Now for the Races:

People can register for the 5k &/or the 10K. However, if you sign-up for the novice race, that is the only race you may participate in. The novice race is for people who are just beginning their rollerski training.

This year, we will be giving trophies to the male and female winners in each of the three races. In response to a suggestion from last year, we also will be presenting a trophy to the overall male and female winners based on their performance in both the 5K and 10K races.

Also in response to a suggestion made, we are holding team/club championships. We are looking to present the top high school team and the top open club with a trophy and also with a revolving trophy which will have their name placed on it and then given out again to next year's winners. Here's how it will work.

High School Team Championship: A high school team will consist of 4 skiers - 2 guys and 2 girls. One guy and one girl must race in the 5K and the other guy and girls must race in the 10K (of course they are allowed to race in both races, but only one race will count). The team must sign-up and decide who will count for each race before the first race starts at 12 noon.

Open Club Championship: Basically, the same rules as above except a club only needs to include one woman. Sorry, but we just haven't had that many women in the race. If the number increases, then we can change the rules in the future. Again, which race counts for each of the four members must be decided before the start of the first race.

Special Team/Club Pricing: A team or club the preregisters a group at the same time (in the same envelope) will pay a maximum of $100 for the entire team or club.

For additional information or to request a race application, contact Greg Malia at dgmalia@earthlink.net

That's it for now. More might be added if necessary. Keep checking back.

Week 5 - Some More Classic Work

<img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; He worked with the campers on their classic technique going over a number of dryland drills and then heading out on the roads to implement what they just learned. Skiers came from over 2 hours away to participate in this annual event which marks the end of the rollerski season and the beginning of the snow season for many. In the process, 3 new course records were set. Opening the events was the 5K classic race where Wayne Clark led the way with a course record of 14:09 followed not too far back by Bob Underwood. On the women's side, Kayla Koonz took top honors with Emily Burns not far behind. Next up were the novice skiers. Here, on the 2K loop, Katie Zeppetelli won the overall race in a women's record of 5:45 with Jake Trainor taking the men's title also in a course record of 6:22. Finishing the day was the 10K freestyle where Darrell Rikert won for the 3rd time in a row in a time of 25:24 with Mark Ruoff finishing second. For the women, Kati Christoffel took the title with Janice Sibilia close behind. After the race, there was food, massages, and awards from the sponsors: Toko, Salomon, Atomic, Alpina, Exel, Accelerade, Nathan, Polar, Nikwax and V2. Thanks to everyone for taking part and thanks to all the sponsors. I hope everyone had a good time and plan on coming back next year with some friends.

Results

5K Classic

1) Wayne Clark- 14:09

2) Bob Underwood -
